OUR STORY

Rooted in Naʻau

Building organizations people believe in.

A story about philanthropy, trust, and the relationships that make meaningful work possible.

OUR STORY

It Started With a Simple Observation

The organizations creating the greatest impact werenʻt always the largest. They were the ones that understood people.

Donors. Volunteers. Patients. Clients. Stakeholders.

Different names. The same human need.

To feel connected to something that mattered.

From Healthcare Philanthropy to
Strategic Partnership

Over the last decade, I helped healthcare organizations strengthen donor relationships, steward major gifts, and communicate impact. The work contributed to millions of dollars invested back into the community.

But the lesson wasnʻt about fundraising. It was about trust. The strongest organizations werenʻt simply raising money. They were building relationships that people wanted to belong to.

That realization became the foundation for Hoʻoulu.

Why Hoʻoulu

Hoʻoulu means to grow, to nurture.

The name reflects a belief:

Meaningful growth happens through relationships. Not transactions. Not tactics. Not trends. Relationships.

Because people support what they feel connected to.

the heart behind Hoʻoulu

Built on
feeling.
Driven by
purpose.

I grew up on Maui, where community wasn’t something people talked about—it was simply how life worked.

You showed up for people.

You remembered names.

You celebrated milestones and carried one another through difficult seasons.

Long before I worked in philanthropy, I learned that meaningful growth begins with relationships.

Over the last decade, I’ve helped healthcare organizations, nonprofits, and mission-driven leaders strengthen donor relationships, steward major gifts, shape communications strategies, and build support systems that contributed to millions of dollars in community impact.

But the work was never just about fundraising.

It was about helping people feel connected to something larger than themselves.

Again and again, I saw the same truth emerge:

People support what they believe in.

People invest where they feel seen.

People stay where they feel they belong.

That belief became the foundation of The Ho’oulu Collective.

Today, I partner with founders bringing new ideas into the world, visionaries pursuing ambitious possibilities, and stewards carrying missions that matter.

Together, we cultivate the relationships, stories, and strategies that help meaningful work endure.

Because growth isn’t something we achieve alone.

It’s something we nurture together.

So whether you’re building a vision, strengthening a mission, or stewarding a legacy—

What are we meant to grow next?

It comes from connection."

The Principles Behind Our Work

Relationship first

Trust is built one interaction at a time.

Editorial thinking

Every communication should tell a story.

Stewardship by design

Meaningful experiences are intentionally designed.

For some organizations, that begins with a donor communications plan. For others, an annual report, campaign, stewardship strategy, or founder partnership.

The work takes different forms. The purpose never changes.

letʻs grow something meaningful together

Every Story Deserves a Future.

Letʻs build the relationships, systems, and experiences that help yours thrive.
